On February 17-18, 2025, an orientation training was organized for students enrolled in the Preparatory Program at the School of Foreign Languages (SFL). The sessions were conducted simultaneously in all classrooms at İncirharmanı Campus, where both compulsory and elective preparatory programs are offered, and at Çaycuma Vocational School Campus for students of the Offshore Drilling Technology and Offshore Seabed Applications Technology programs on September 17, 2025, at 10:00 AM.
With a total of 750 students across 33 classrooms, the orientation covered various topics, including the opportunities and facilities provided by our school and university. Students were informed about educational activities, course content, assessment criteria, regulations, the academic calendar, and the SFL library. Additionally, the significance of learning English, its global importance, and our school's international accreditation from the United Kingdom were emphasized.
Beyond academic matters, the program included discussions on topics such as the Zero Waste Project, GreenMetric, library usage, health services, student discipline procedures, the SFL Student Handbook, campus life, and student accessibility. Students were also introduced to the Student Psychological Counseling and Support Unit at the Farabi Campus, which provides services at the İncirharmanı Campus by appointment once a week. Information on substance abuse prevention was also shared.
The orientation introduced university administrative units and departments, including the Prof. Dr. Durmuş Günay Library at Farabi Campus, energy efficiency initiatives, the Disabled Student Unit, and student clubs. Presentations conducted by academic advisors aimed to facilitate students' adaptation to the preparatory program and university life. The significance of student motivation in maximizing the benefits of the preparatory year was highlighted, reinforcing the importance of learning English in today’s world.
At the end of these sessions, students' questions about language learning and preparatory education were addressed, marking the conclusion of the first day of the Spring Semester Orientation Training.
On February 18, 2025, at 12:00 PM, the second day of the orientation featured a "Director-Student Meeting." The event began with an opening speech by SFL Director Lecturer Okşan DAĞLI, who provided insights into the "Year of Family" initiative for 2025, Quality Assurance and Quality Processes, ÜNİDES Projects (University Student Communities Collaboration & Support Program), TÜBİTAK Student Participation Projects, and the Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University Student Quality Commission. Criteria for commission membership selection, available on the BEUN website, were also explained.
Preparatory students were informed about the formation of an SFL Student Quality Commission, with member selection based on academic performance. Following these presentations, SFL Director Lecturer Okşan DAĞLI and Head of the Foreign Languages Department Lecturer Dr. Sevda ÇİMEN answered students' questions regarding language learning and preparatory education.
Vice Director Lecturer Dr. Duygu SAĞLAM and Lecturer Dr. Gizem PARSOVA also participated, sharing valuable insights with students.
