The 2nd Professional Development Event Held at BEUN School of Foreign Languages

At Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University School of Foreign Languages, another significant step has been taken to ensure the sustainability of academic and professional development. The TPDU (Teacher Professional Development Unit) event, held on June 19, 2025, at the İncirharmanı Campus, aimed to enrich classroom practices, encourage the development of new approaches, and foster a culture of learning through mutual inspiration among instructors.

The day began with a thought-provoking session titled “Wield Your Techniques Better: Challenging Our Habits” delivered by Lect. Esra Saka and Lect. Zeral Bozkurt, which encouraged participants to question their established teaching routines and view classroom practices from different perspectives. The momentum continued with engaging sessions such as “Jeopardy” by Lect. Sevda Çimen, turning learning into an enjoyable experience; “Crazy Hands” by Lect. Pelin Balkan and Lect. Pınar Tekeli, focusing on creative story writing; “Guided Discovery of a Grammar Item” by Lect. Eda Baki Zengin; “Typhoon”, an interactive review game by Lect. Oya Barutcu; and “A View of You” by Lect. Mutlu Zengin Çetin, which centered on emotional expression.

Later in the day, Lect. Hatice Toptan shared a project-based lesson plan titled “Exploring the Mining Museum” along with her follow-up activity “To Read or Not to Read”, challenging reading practices. Finally, the day concluded with an insightful presentation by Lect. Şule Çınar Yağcı on how to improve speaking skills in a foreign language class using generative artificial intelligence.

This event once again highlighted that professional development at the School of Foreign Languages is not just an individual responsibility but a shared institutional value. By supporting continuous learning and collaboration, such initiatives help strengthen the academic vision of our school and foster a culture of growth and innovation.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Lect. Esra Saka and Lect. Zeral Bozkurt for their dedicated contributions to the planning and execution of this meaningful program as active members of the Professional Development Unit. Their efforts represent a valuable step toward ongoing renewal and improvement in education, continuing to enrich our institutional culture.
