Notification of Preparatory Classes Exams for Foreign Language Proficiency (Exemption) and Placement

On Monday, September 12, 2022, the preparatory classes' foreign language proficiency (exemption) test and placement exam will be administered in person in two sessions at the ZBEUN Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences.

Session 1: Foreign Language Proficiency (Exemption) Exam (Exam Time: 10:00-12:00)

  • Participation is open to students who have enrolled for the first time in one of our university's programs (Electrical and Electronics Engineering, English Language and Literature, 100% English Economics, 30% English Business, Applied English and Translation, Offshore Drilling Technology, Offshore Bottom Applications Technology) requiring a foreign language preparation course and who seek to be excused from preparatory education. 
  • Students who are unable to finish the required preparation course within two years or during the 2021–2022 academic year are eligible to take this test.

To be deemed successful on this test, you must get a minimum of 100 complete points;

  • At least 60 points for students enrolled in bachelor's degree programs that teach partly in a foreign language and associate's degree programs that teach entirely in a foreign language.
  • Students enrolled in undergraduate programs that are taught exclusively in a foreign language must earn a minimum of 75 points.

In addition to the written examination, the departments of Offshore Drilling Technology and Offshore Bottom Applications Technology will administer an oral examination.


Session 2: Foreign Language Placement Exam (exam time: 15:00-16:30)

  • Students enrolled in the optional preparation class and those who cannot take the foreign language competence (exemption) test or who have failed and will enter the preparatory school will sit for this exam.
  • In the second session, students in the departments of English Language and Literature (ELL), 100 percent English Economics, Offshore Drilling Technology, and Offshore Applications Technology are not required to take the Placement test.
  • The students mentioned in the preceding paragraphs must take this test in order to be placed in an appropriate language class.
