The School of Foreign Languages at Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University organized an informative seminar titled “Digital Literacy and Cybercrime” to raise students’ awareness about risks in the digital environment.
The seminar was delivered by Dr. Semih Çakır, Director of the Karaelmas Cyber Security Application and Research Center. During the presentation, Dr. Çakır emphasized that digital literacy is not only about using digital tools but also about critically evaluating online information, protecting personal data, and recognizing potential digital threats.
The seminar covered important topics such as IBAN fraud, phishing attacks, social engineering techniques, bank account rental scams, and cybercrime practices targeting young people. Through real-life examples, students were informed about how digital fraud operates, how criminal networks manipulate individuals, and the potential legal consequences of becoming involved in such activities.
With his strong subject expertise and effective communication skills, Dr. Çakır engaged the audience and answered students’ questions while providing practical advice on safe internet use, data protection, multi-factor authentication, and identifying suspicious online activities.
At the end of the seminar, Dr. Semih Çakır was presented with a certificate of appreciation by the School of Foreign Languages for his valuable contribution.
The School of Foreign Languages aims to continue organizing similar events to help students become more aware and responsible digital citizens.
